The selection of “SUC international demonstration cities and communities” is done by experts from the UN agencies and SUC experts team based on the SUC Guidelines. It aims to encourage local governments and community developers in building demonstration cities and communities of sustainable development based on the international standards, and help implement the 11th goal “making cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” of the UN 2030 Agenda. With such practices, China could share its experience with other developing countries.

The selected SUC international demonstration cities and communities will be developed under the guidance of SUC Guidelines. SUC experts team will compile the “International Sustainable Development Indicators and Strategy Report” based on the local characteristics and provide thorough counseling services in the following three years. We will also help the local cities and communities build international platforms and think tanks to encourage international exchanges and cooperation. By doing so, we hope to create inclusive, safe, healthy, resilient and efficient demonstration communities and cities that have a worldwide impact.

Process:

· Select a newly built urban area of 3-5km2; or a community of 500,000m2-3km2;

· Develop International Sustainable Development Indicators and Strategy Report;

· Build an international demonstration model in 3 years with support from SUC experts team and produce annual evaluation reports;

· Share good practices and experience with other developing countries.
