Based on UN framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, SUC Public Welfare Programme are a series of public dissemination and education activities for sustainable development launched by SUC Executive Body (Public Welfare Department of SUC Programme Management Center) in 2014. It aims at raising the awareness of sustainable development at all levels in China, leading the public to establish a mindset on green development, mobilising community participation, encouraging practices of new consumption pattern and lifestyle of green and sustainable development and increasing social positive energy. During the process of such activities, data samples at the basic level are collected, so as to provide a quantitative foundation for developing Guidelines for Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Since 2014, in collaboration with various universities and public welfare organizations in Beijing, in-depth branding public welfare activities in the eight districts of Beijing have been conducted, such as “Y4E Green Youth Action” and “Green Life, All in Action”, etc. Approx. 50 sustainable-development-themed events at full capacity in more than 40 communities, universities and colleges in Beijing had been organized, attracting nearly 300 college students and people with enthusiasm for public welfare as volunteers, with the themes of “Water and Power Saving”, “Waste Classification and Disposal”, “Smog Prevention”, “Neighborhood Relations”, “Green Lifestyle”, “Environmental Awareness Elevation”, “Public Speech on Environment Protection”, “Green Domestic Appliances Selection and Purchase” and “Clean Home”, etc. These events are highly appreciated by UN Environment Programme, All-China Environment Federation, China Community Development Association, Social Affairs Division of Ministry of Civil Affairs, China Internet Information Centre, Society of Entrepreneurs & Ecology, street offices, neighborhood committees and residents in Beijing.
