Sha Zukang was elected as the Honorary Chairman of SUC Programme in 2015 when the program was launched. Sha started his service in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1970. During 37 years of being a diplomat, Sha involved himself in a wide range of issues in the fields such as politics, security, economy, society and human rights. He participated in decision-making of many major diplomatic issues of the Chinese government. He was the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs from 2007 to 2012. He served as the Secretary-General of the UN Sustainable Development Summit from 2010 to 2012. Also as the Secretary-General of the Preparatory Committee of 2030 Agenda, he was responsible for organizing the development of the UN 2030 Agenda, which was unanimously adopted by 193 countries in September 2015. Sha Zukang made important contributions to the promotion of sustainable development around the world.
